The Future of Women

'The Future of Women': A Mini Documentary Series by EUR

From the onset of COVID, the locking down of society to protests on systemic racism, the past year's events have increasingly pushed society to take a better look at itself and recognized the sheer costs of our societal inequities.

As we see the light at the end of the tunnel through mass vaccination, marking this International Women's Day (IWD) provides us with an opportunity to look ahead to how we can continue to address our pre-existing societal challenges of gender inequity and our need for gender-equitable leadership.

In this mini-documentary series, 'The Future of Women', EUR asks some of our thought leaders from across our community about their views and the key issues they identify that women will face in the post COVID world. We explore topics ranging from socio-economic inequality to our future leaders studying within our institution in five videos.

Whilst gender inequity in the workplace remains a continuing challenge, its extent and prevalence are not independent of other societal challenges. For example, COVID, despite its universal effects on society, has had notably gendered outcomes also. In this mini-documentary, we investigate how women been affected differently from men during the era of COVID-19 and what it means for the future.

We discuss these themes with Dr. Jess Bier, assistant professor of urban sociology at EUR's School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB). She tells us more about the factors of structural inequity in the workplace and the pandemic's gendered consequences alongside it.
