About the RLK
The Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet is the first-rate private library for Rotterdam and surroundings, with a specialist heritage collection and contemporary titles relating to art, history, philosophy and many other fields. The Leeskabinet specialises in the humanities, with a focus on literature and on the city of Rotterdam. In addition to our exceptional collection, we offer personalised service.
Founded in 1859 to provide the residents of Rotterdam with a high-quality library and reading room, the Leeskabinet has become a heritage library with a collection of around 250,000 volumes. Our members contribute to the preservation of this cultural heritage in Rotterdam. Because the Leeskabinet is housed in the University Library of Erasmus University, students and staff have free access to our collection.
Besides managing and expanding our collection, the Leeskabinet regularly organises lectures about culture, literature and science.
