What will you learn during the Erasmus Preparatory Year?
The most important part of this preparatory year is the Dutch language. We therefore spend a lot of time and attention on the Dutch language, especially on speaking skills. In addition to Dutch, you will take part in the English, Mathematics and Study Skills courses during September to April. If you successfully complete those courses, you are allowed to continue with courses from our specialisation programmes: Biology, Physics or Chemistry (from May onwards). The Language & Training Center, together with several external parties, such as the municipality, decides which courses you are eligible for. This preparatory year is therefore different for everyone!
Good to know
This preparatory year is intended for refugees who are potentially highly educated, or have already completed a higher education course in their country of origin. It is therefore important that you have followed a higher education course or a course that prepares you for higher education in your country of origin (at least comparable with HAVO). Even if you have already attended a 'Nederlandse internationale schakelklas' (ISK), you may be eligible to participate in our programme.
You can be admitted to the Erasmus Preparatory Year under the following conditions: you are able to study full-time; you have a B1 level in both the Dutch and the English language according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), and your mathematical skills are adequate (comparable to HAVO-4). In addition, it is important that you are able to work with computer programmes, such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
