English assessment

An English assessment determines your language proficiency in a much more comprehensive way then with an intake. The results of this assessment can be used to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (BKO), to prove your English proficiency for the dual language policy (EUR employees) or to show your employer that you meet the necessary language requirements.

After taking the assessment, you will receive a level statement with a short report that contains information about your current level and possible improvements. A distinction is made between the oral and written skills according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Assessments are normally conducted by appointment, except for EUR employees.

What to expect?

An English language assessment consists of an oral test of 15 minutes, a written test of 45 minutes and an online test (Quick Placement Test) of 90 minutes maximum.

  • The oral test is a 15-minute interview with two of our English language trainers.
During this interview both personal and professional questions will be asked.
  • The written test is an assignment, you will write an essay about a current situation.
Time allocated for this is 45 minutes.
  • The Quick Placement Test (QPT) is done online and you’ll receive an invitation via email.
With a two-week license, you can make this test when it suits you best.

Based on the results of the QPT, the interview and your writing assignment, your level of English is expressed as a level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). If your assessment result shows that you didn’t obtain the needed level of proficiency, then registration for a LTC language course or an individual training course in English can be done based on your results.

What does it cost?

An assessment costs € 157,50, employees of Erasmus University receive a discount and pay € 105,-.
In both cases, a level statement is valid for a period of one year. After all, your language proficiency might have improved or deteriorated.
