Housing during COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on all of us. As EUR we guarantee education for the next academic year. If possible on campus, otherwise online or blended. This may have consequences on your decision about housing.

This web page is an overview of frequently asked questions. Please read the information carefully.
Reserved Housing

The reserved housing of the EUR consists of a variety of rooms and apartments at different partners. At this moment we have a collaboration with:

Each partner has a different cancellation procedure. When you click on the link of the partner you will be redirected to their web page and you can read the cancellation procedure. At this moment the procedure of SSH and Xior has been published. We hope to add within a short period of time the procedures of our other partners.

Other accommodation providers

On our website you can find two options for housing, reserved housing which we mention above, and other accommodation providers such as:

  • Housing Anywhere
  • Stadswonen Rotterdam
  • Private market
  • Hotels/hostels

We do not have agreements with those partners, so you will have to make sure to get well informed about the (cancellation) procedures yourself. Of course, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us!

Frequently Asked Questions

    • After registration at SSH the application for housing is automatically sent to the contact person of your programme. They will verify your application and determine whether you are authorized to apply for accommodation from the housing offer reserved by the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

As soon as the status of your application is set to "Approved" you can make a reservation at one of the available accommodations. Because the registration has started on 7 April 2020 almost all rooms are already fully booked. Each program at the Erasmus University Rotterdam can only approve a limited number of accounts. Even though you can still see rooms available, the faculty will not be able to approve your registration. The remaining available rooms are meant for other faculties at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. The chance that your account will be approved is little.

    • You can find the cancellation procedure on the XIOR webpage.

    • You can find the cancellation procedure on the SSH webpage.

    • No, this is not possible. To process each cancellation a reserved accommodation provider has to put time and effort in making sure you receive back your money. The cancellation fee will cover this work.

    • The reserved accommodation we have reserved can only be rented for a fixed rental period.

    • You have two options:

      1. Cancel your tenancy agreement according to terms and look for another room (on the private market) as of the date you expect to arrive in The Netherlands; or
      2. Keep you room and pay the rent and you are assured of a room when you will arrive in The Netherlands.
    • No, unfortunately this is not possible. The rooms at our partners can only be rented for a fixed rental period. Because our partners cannot lose any income, they cannot keep the room empty and reserve it for you. You have two options:

      1. Cancel your tenancy agreement and look for another room (on the private market) as of the date you expect to arrive in The Netherlands;
      2. Keep you room and pay the rent and you are assured of a room when you will arrive in The Netherlands.
    • Unfortunately we cannot visit rooms and/or apartments for you. To help you we have created a list with some important issues to look out for when signing a contract. If you really do not trust it you can also send an email to studenthousing@eur.nl.

    • We expect that around January it might be difficult to find housing so we would advise you to start your search in phases.

      Phase 1: At this moment
Register at Stadswonen Rotterdam. The rooms they offer are appointed to a tenant based on the longest registration period. So the longer you are registered, the better your chances are of quickly finding a room.

      Phase 2: September/October 2020
Start with you search on the private market. For instance, via Housing Anywhere. Their offer will be update daily so check it daily/weekly.

Look at offers of at Other accommodation providers and on the Private Market.

Also if we have some reserved accommodation available we will put an update on our Housing website about this. And make sure to read our information about “Housing in Rotterdam in 7 steps”!

    • It is at your own risk if you do decide to make a housing reservation while you don’t have a definite offer. When you do decide to reserve housing make sure you are well informed about the cancellation procedures.

    • All our reserved  housing providers will follow the rules and regulations in their buildings as set by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.

Inside the room/apartment you and your roommates are responsible for following the rules.
