Voorbereidend Jaar Erasmus
Sixteen refugees from Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Iran and Syria started Voorbereidend Jaar Erasmus 2017-2018. During this programme, the talented participants are being prepared for admission exams for a higher education study. The Language & Training Centre offers the following lessons: Dutch, English, ‘Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij’ (KNM) and ‘Oriëntatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt’ (ONA). During the preparatory year, the participants complete the civic integration course. There is also a considerable focus on history and mathematics and, depending on study choice, courses in biology, chemistry and physics can be followed. To practise Dutch language skills in a more informal setting than the lecture hall, each participant is allocated a language buddy, which may be a student or an employee.
You can be admitted to Voorbereidend Jaar Erasmus 2018-2019 if you have a valid residence permit and have command of both Dutch and English at level CEFR-B1. If you cannot demonstrate that you have command of Dutch and English at level CEFR-B1, you will need to take an intake test. It is also important that you have followed a higher education study programme or a higher education preparatory programme in your home country.
If you are uncertain as to whether your prior education is sufficient for admission to our preparatory year, as someone with refugee status, you can easily request a study programme or diploma evaluation. The evaluation of your diploma provides you with information about your study programme level and specialism. This information can help you make the right study choice. A diploma evaluation is only a recommendation. It is not a legally valid document. A translation of your diploma is required if you do not supply the documents in Dutch, German, English, French or Afrikaans.
If you have started the civic integration process and you already receive a personal integration budget (DUO), you can proceed further with civic integration during the preparatory year. You can use the remaining part of your loan to help pay for the preparatory year. More information about the integration budget (DUO) can be found here site. If you have completed the civic integration process or have insufficient budget, you can contact Stichting voor Vluchteling-Studenten UAF to discuss whether you are eligible for financial support that would enable you to participate in the Erasmus preparatory year. As well as supporting refugees during the preparation for a study, selecting the study and during the study itself, UAF also offers financial support for a higher education preparatory year. If you have not yet registered with UAF, you need to do this prior to starting our higher education preparatory year.
Would you like to start the preparatory year in 2018? More information about the registration procedure will be available on this website soon. Please contact the team via our contact form.
