Student Econometrics and Operations Research

I have been very passionate about mathematics for as long as I remember. It was at the end of my time at high school that I realised that I mostly enjoyed its application in fields such as physics and econometrics. After careful consideration, I chose to study Econometrics and Operations Research due to the diverse nature of the study programme, which allows students to pursue careers in countless disciplines involving mathematics. I have no regrets whatsoever.

Throughout my studies, I realised that my greatest interest is in statistics and probability theory, which reveal surprisingly counter-intuitive results such as the solution of the famous Monty Hall problem. During the first year, I was mostly focused on getting used to university life. I soon noticed, however, that Erasmus University provided numerous ways to develop and challenge myself besides regular studies. It was in my second year that I decided to use these opportunities by becoming a Teaching Assistant and joining the Education Committee. I also opted to pursue the Erasmus Honours Programme in order to experience various other disciplines.

I would recommend every student to develop themselves besides their study programme by making full use of all opportunities Erasmus School of Economics offers. Your time at university is not merely about studying, it is about challenging yourself in ways you have never done before. Remember: a smooth sea has never made a skilled sailor.
