Class of 2013 (Graduated in 2016)
Master Media & Business, Erasmus University Rotterdam, NL

What was important in making up your mind?

For me it was mostly important that I would find a master program that I would be truly interested in and intrigued by, so that I would be motivated enough to put a lot of effort into it.

What made you decide to choose for this master?

I wanted the Master program to have a particular focus on media, which is an area I enjoyed most when studying IBCoM. At first I considered the Marketing Management master, but this program was too focused on only marketing for me. I preferred a broader perspective, which is why I chose the Media & Business program. There are also some marketing influences in this master, which is one of the reasons I really enjoy it. Also, I really wanted to study an English program again and I like the international environment.

How would you describe the connection between IBCoM and your master?

The most obvious connection lies in the fact that they are both international programs, which means you are studying and working together with students from all over the world. Also, both programs have an application procedure that select students on their unique qualities, which gives great value to both programs. Furthermore, the fact that both studies allow you to choose your own focus area is very valuable and makes your diploma more ‘personal’ in that sense.

How would you describe your master?

I would describe this Master as a program that teaches and makes you critically reflect on new media developments for international businesses. Areas such as CSR, innovation, reputation management, entrepreneurship, PR, advertising etc., are all concepts that are dealt with in this program one way or the other. Also, this program can be characterized by having a very interactive atmosphere in the tutorials. It is expected and suggested that you participate, to really get a grasp on the literature and in class discussions.

In hindsight, what would you have liked to know before, what you know now?

I did not realize before that a Master program exists of doing so much research (which is something I do not particularly enjoy), but I guess this is something I could have known in advance;).

Anything you would like to add?

Something very relevant to know is that this Master also offers an Exchange program, which is something I highly recommend, if this is something you haven’t done before in your Bachelors.
