Contract Education for Participants
During the past few years, Erasmus University has made its lectures available to non-students wishing to receive education at academic level. People who do not want to follow a full programme or study course prefer to opt for Erasmus Lectures. They do one or more courses with the regular students and do the final test.
There are only a limited number of courses open to these external participants. The number of places on each course is also limited and priority is given to regular students. In principle, the courses listed below are open to external participants during the coming academic year.
Course offer 2017-2018
Previous education required
Generally speaking, pre-university education is sufficient, although you must decide for yourself whether you have sufficient (specific) previous education to attend the course of your choice. Some courses are given in English.
Term of the course
The academic year is divided into four blocks. We have specified the block in which the relevant course is given in the course description. Click here for an overview of the ESHCC’s most recent divisions of the academic year.
The participation costs for each course are calculated on the basis of the number of credits assigned to a certain course through the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). We charge 60 euros for each EC credit, so you would pay 300 euros for a course with 5 credits. This does not include the costs of literature. We also charge a one-off registration fee of 27.50 euros.
Tests and certificates
Each course ends with a test, which is included in the course price. This test may be in the shape of a report, an essay, a take-home examination, a written examination or a combination of the above. The relevant type of test is specified in the course description. If your test results are satisfactory, the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication will send you a certificate to this effect. If you decide to follow a full study programme later on, the certificates awarded to you may be used as an exemption.

Using the facilities
You can borrow books at the University Library on production of your student card. Some courses make use of Blackboard, a digital learning environment used in support of the course. If the course you are following uses Blackboard, you should register for this yourself, but you can only do this after you have actually been enrolled at Erasmus University. However, you can register as a ‘guest’ at the Education Office if your enrolment is delayed.
Timetables and alterations
You will find all information relating to lectures and examinations for the relevant course in the course description. Please click on the course in question and on the Timetable link in the course description itself. No rights can be derived from these timetables, and we reserve the right to change them.
What to do if you have to change or cancel your course
You can change or cancel your course in writing at any time up to the date of its commencement, and the cancellation fee is 50 euros. Once the course has started, you cannot make any more changes and the course fee will not be refunded.
