Siobhan St. John

I can confidently say that my Masters is far more challenging.

Master of Business Administration Ole Miss, USA

Class of 2009 (Graduated in 2012)

What was important in making up your mind?
A big decision in making up my mind is that I got offered a Graduate Assistantship, which allowed me to cover a large part of my tuition.

What made you decide to choose for this master?
I wanted to get a bit more knowledge in the area of business. After my internship I decided that I would probably not want to just focus on communications for the rest of my life and in order to have a diverse skill-set I would need to get better acquainted with areas of business.

How would you describe the connection between IBCoM and your master?
There are definitely areas which overlap. I have seen this in classes such as Management Information Systems, Organizational Behavior and Marketing. It's always great to have some former knowledge in an area, because it makes it a lot easier to apply certain elements of the class to the tasks you need to do.

How would you describe your master?
It is definitely intense. I think I might have underestimated it at times, also due to the fact that Erasmus is often seen as a pretty prestigious university. I can confidently say that my Masters is far more challenging. Putting two years worth of work in a one- year program means you have to put a lot of time into it, plus Americans love giving LOTS of work outside of class. Honestly, if anyone is considering an MBA or doing a finance/accounting related field in the United States, prepare yourself.

In hindsight, what would you have liked to have known before, what you know now?
I think I would have loved if we had the ability to connect a bit more with other universities as far as master programs are concerned. Even knowing the possibility of doing graduate assistantships to fund my tuition would have been quite helpful.

What kind of job would you be interested in after this master?
I am looking into doing investor relations. I feel it's a nice combination of a communications background intertwined with my MBA.
