Quality comes from passion and pride: the passion of instructors and students for their field, and their pride in the results of research, education or learning effort.
The focus on quality is implemented in practice through quality assurance. The concept of quality refers to a collection of methods and techniques used by an organisation to safeguard and promote quality. Quality is measured; there is an organisational division of inspection from education process, and attempts are made to improve the quality of education by identifying and eliminating errors.
Within the organisation, quality assurance contributes to the maintenance of passion and pride. Quality assurance in education is aimed at facilitating reflection and improvement, thereby stimulating enthusiasm and inspiration for education. Safeguarding and/or promoting the quality of education is a task for everyone involved in education. These reasons are why a lot of attention – both externally and internally – is focussed on quality assurance in education.
