For whom?

Tuition fee exemption is a one-time exemption from the tuition fee during the board membership year of full time board members of student associations and the University Council.

Two options Tuition fee exemption

1. Tuition fee exemption as a registered student

  • You register for an initial programme at the EUR;
  • You should pay statutory fee for this, but due to the tuition fee exemption the amount you have to pay is set to 0;
  • You deviate from following education/exams/examinations/receiving counselling etc.;
  • You can use your DUO rights (because you are registered as a student).

2. Tuition fee exemption as a non-registered board member

  • You do not register as a student and therefore do not have to pay a tuition fee;
  • You may, by signing a statement, make use of the Financial Support Fund for a board membership grant, even though you’re not a student;
  • Only for fulltime board members of student associations;
  • You cannot use your DUO rights (because you are not a student) and of course, you cannot follow any education.

Tuition fee exemption as a registered student

You are eligible for tuition fee exemption as a registered student if you…

  1. Are enrolled for an initial programme at the EUR for which you owe the legal tuition fee, and
  2. Receive a board membership grant as board member of a student organisation designated by the Executive Board, or the University Council, and
  3. Are a fulltime board member (1680 hours or 9 grant months);
  4. Are willing to sign a statement stating that you abstain from studying, exams and receiving guidance on study and research activities at the institution or another funded institution during the full academic year of your board membership.

Apply for the tuition fee exemption as a registered student

  1. You apply for your programme until the payment. You indicate in Studielink that you will pay through the educational institution instead of authorization (you will be reminded that you still have to pay);
  2. You will receive a registration form in August via the organisation;
  3. You request Tuition fee exemption before the 15th of August (digitally handed in at E&S secretariat);
  4. With the application form, you declare to abstain from studying, exams, receiving guidance;
  5. The student and the head of Student Administration sign the form;
  6. At the end of the academic year, there will be checked in Osiris whether the student has met the conditions. If not, the student has to repay the tuition fee.

Tuition fee exemption as non-registered board member

You are eligible for tuition fee exemption as a non-registered board member if you…

  1. Hold a fulltime board membership (1680 hours or 9 months) in a student organisation designated by the Executive board,
  2. Receive a board membership grant for your board membership
  3. Were enrolled as full-time EUR programme student in the previous academic year for which you owed tuition fees to EUR and for which you were not yet awarded a degree, and
  4. have signed a statement that you intend to enrol again as student at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the next academic year.

Application procedure for non-enrolled board members

  1. You should apply for tuition fee exemption before 1 September of the relevant academic year, using an application form. With this form you state you intention to re-enrol as student at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the academic year following the academic year of tuition fee exemption;
  2. The application form should be signed by you and the head of Student Administration.
  3. You don’t (re)enrol as a student but you can apply for a grant as a board member of a student organisation.
  4. Next academic year, you enrol as a student of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
