van Doorn lecture

At the end of the appointment period, the Van Doorn lecture will be held:

5th lecture by prof. Jan Rath

Slowly but surely the city is being populated by a new kind of residents. They are often highly educated, 'originally' Dutch or 'expat', relatively young, and usually form a one or two-person household or small family. These 'new middle-classes' are attracted by the apartments with character, the leafy surroundings or the busy shopping streets, the beautiful location of the neighborhood, its diversity and tough character.they personify the seemingly inevitable residential gentrification, about which there is so much to do, and at the same time drive a process of commercial gentrification, says Prof. Jan Rath in his oration ' Hip entrepreneurship, cultural consumption and new urbanity'  on Friday 17 June 2022

4th lecture by prof. Bea Cantillon

Held within the framework of the International Lecture Series DPAS with the title 'Disappointing poverty trends and the tragedy of the active welfare state

3rd lecture by prof. Evelyn Ruppert

The misuse of facebook data by Cambridge Analytica and the appearance of fake news raises urgent questions about our personal data. 2nd lecture by Prof. Kees Schuyt

New content must be given to the central concepts in the welfare state: freedom, equality, solidarity and social justice. The reason for this is the structural and moral circumstances that have changed drastically. This is what sociologist Kees Schuyt says in his oration Noden en wensen. The welfare state seen as a historical phenomenon on Monday 24 June 2013.

1st lecture by prof. Mark Bovens
