History

Faculty of Social Sciences 1963 -

It is important to record and tell the history of the Faculty of Social Sciences*. Thus, the current situation of the faculty can be understood and the memory of the organisation is preserved. Since the founding of the faculty in 1963, the story of the faculty has been written down twice. The first time was when the faculty celebrated its 40th anniversary. The celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the faculty was the second occasion the story of the faculty was published.

* Since the 1st of September 2017 the name of the faculty is Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

  • 1963-2003 | 40 years of FSW

    The FSW began in 1963 with the establishment of the Sociology program. In 40 years the faculty has undergone great development and has known turbulent times. In telling the story of 40 years of FSW, Matthijs Dicke has taken the Rotterdam Formula, as formulated by its founder Professor Jacques van Doorn, as his starting point.

  • 2003-2013 | 50 years FSW

    The story of 10 years of FSW was shaped by Mary van der Graaf around high-profile and innovative developments in organization, education and research. A decade in which the FSW grew into a dynamic and multidisciplinary faculty.
