Timeline of exchange

After your online application you will receive a letter of admission in the weeks following the application deadline. Upon receiving this letter of admission only a few more steps await completion before your academic adventure abroad at Erasmus University Rotterdam can begin.

Please read the information carefully in the timeline of exchange below and have a look at the checklist of admission and enrollment to be fully prepared for your arrival in the Netherlands. Please keep in mind that the information marked grey is applicable to the period before you received a letter of admission. These steps were topical for you as a prospective exchange student

 Request the Immigration Desk to contact you with further instruction regarding the immigration procedure (if applicable).



 Register you in the student administration system.

StudentOnce you receive the letter of admission from the International Office, you are an admitted exchange student. Finalize your admission and enrollment, as well as course registration.





 Respond to the Immigration Desk and return the requested documents as soon as possible (if applicable). Please inform the International Office if you do not hear from the Immigration Desk before June 20 (semester 1 or whole year)/ October 20 (semester 2). 





 In response to a message from the Registrar's Office follow a link in the email and upload a photo to the student administration system. Your enrollment will not be complete without it!

Arrange your finances and insurance.


Search for accommodation. Please note that this will take time. We advise you to start your search for a place to stay as soon as possible.

Arrange other practical matters.

Register you in the university student administration system and send you ERNA account details.


Send regular newsletters and update you on the enrollment process.

You will leave for your exchange period abroad. Welcome in Rotterdam and don’t forget to enjoy your exchange!




Make sure to attend the mandatory introduction days organized by Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences. 
The university also offers non-mandatory general orientation activities in order to get to know the university and to meet fellow students.
