What does an ABEUR board member do?

ABEUR is known as an active alumni association 'where things happen'. Below is a brief overview of how a board member of ABEUR spend its time.

Activities

We organize 3 to 4 meetings a year. This can be a return lecture, a spring and autumn meeting at the EUR/ special external location (lectures on a current topic with discussion) or a working visit. For a report of our activities: look under the heading 'reports' on this website. The board members organize these meetings. Sometimes alone, but mostly in pairs.

In the past the following meetings have been organized:

  • MEP Caroline Nagtegaal-van Doorn about the work in the European Parliament.
  • Abigail Norville (director HR, Communication and Legal Affairs at the municipality of Rotterdam) about "inclusion: if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen".
  • Jaap Uijlenbroek (Director General Tax Office) about the tasks and challenges of the Tax Office
  • Lecture "Impact of increased public-private partnerships for public administration" by prof.dr.ing. Geert Teisman
  • College on "New Democracy" by Kim Putters (SCP) and Bert Blase (mayor of Vlaardingen and initiator Code Orange)
  • Lecture on the outcome of the American presidential election by American expert Koen Petersen
  • Meeting "Start-up ecosystems: policy instruments for cities" by Rinke Zonneveld (Director InnovationQuarter NV) and Robin Slakhorst (CCO Symbid).
  • Lecture "Learning by doing, about the participation society" by dr. Martijn van der Steen
