We have several joint research programmes.

Erasmus Research Methods & Techniques

The section Research Methods and Techniques performs statistical and methodological activities focused on practical application as well as on theoretical and fundamental investigation. Besides, we offer our expertise on study-design and statistical analysis in an advisory role to colleagues from Psychology as well as Pedagogical sciences. The fundamental research aspires to develop and improve statistical techniques for the study of social phenomena and concepts.

Main Research topics:

- Meta-analysis & replications: Meta-analysis and its latest developments as well as Replication research, Open Science etc.

- Experienced based sampling: Research on (methods of) EBS data, mostly focus on longitudinal data.

- Research & Validation: Evaluation and comparison of different methods to increase evidence-based practice. In addition to validation of methods, validation of measures is also included in this theme.

Our department is a hub of advanced statistical expertise, and uses techniques such as Meta-Analysis, Item-Response Theory, Latent Class Modeling, Multilevel Modeling, Structural Equation Modeling, Missing Data Imputation, and Bayesian Statistics. We also employ a variety of statistical software packages, such as SPSS, SAS, Mplus, LatentGold, MLWin, HLM, JAGS, and R, and offer support on the use of these programmes.


The section Methods and Techniques has, together with three other Dutch universities, received a grant from SURF to develop a online database for statistics exercises. Read more in this news article. (in Dutch)
