Tamara de Groot is a Univesity College Utrecht alumna, so she can relate all too well to the study load students face at a university college. After graduation from UCU she continued her studies at Leiden University, in contemporary art. Next she worked at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. When Erasmus University College welcomed its first students in September 2013, Tamara was happy to be among the first to teach them the oh-so valuable academic skills.
In addition to teaching and coordinating, she enjoys having lunch, dinner and the occasional breakfast in the many food places in the vicinity of EUC. Also at home she loves experimenting with cooking and baking, and although over the years the health craze has gotten to her, she also very much appreciates a good hamburger.
Why do you work at EUC?
After graduating I convinced myself that teaching was not for me - I always assumed that to teach you had to know absolutely everything about everything. It was appealing to me, however, and when I saw a new university college was starting in Rotterdam I could not resist and applied for the position of Academic Skills tutor. It turned out that teaching is not so much about dumping knowledge bombs on students but much more about assisting students in their learning process, which can mean many different things. And luckily that is something I enjoy very much, and teaching turned out to very much be my thing.
