Jim Bastiaans is studying the Master's programme of Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he is currently concerned with the philosophy of science and technology. This includes trying to make sense of Actor-Network theory and it's developments. Will this theory continue to be of support and use in an increasingly demanding society that is attempting to correspond sustainability to innovation? As an ambassador Jim tries to inform prospective students on the challenges and opportunities of life as a Philosophy student. Additionally he is involved in a project for the School of Life at a festival in the Netherlands. Outside of university you can find Jim on the trail. After hiking in the Rockies, Alps, Lapland and Yosemite he is always looking forward to the next expedition.
Why do you work at EUC?
From my experience working as an ambassador, I learned that I enjoyed assisting prospective students in choosing their path in life. One of the most remarkable things was the appreciation prospective students showed. When a job vacancy opened for the position of assistant in the process of admitting students to the Bachelor’s programme of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Erasmus University College I knew that this would be a great way to follow-up and expand this experience. I am still overjoyed to be actively involved with expanding the great community at EUC.
