Insights while waiting on the coffee machine, a change of thoughts because of that smart comment from one of your fellow colleagues or students, or just that bit of extra context that Twitter or Facebook lack. Covid times make it harder for us as an academic community to pace down for a minute and share our perceptions on current affairs in the world. What is happening beyond the headlines of the news?
At Beyond the Headlines we share more stories and more points of view to make more sense of the world. Join the talk on the 14th of April.
It is almost 100 days since Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States. And the first hundred days of a presidency are sometimes compared to the honeymoon period of a marriage. What has he achieved in those three months? Is he really heading in such a different direction from his predecessor Trump and how is his American Rescue Plan of almost 2,000 billion received in the country?
Dr Etienne Augé will take you through Biden's first hundred days and compare them to those of previous presidents; he will talk with other scientists and America-experts.
This Lunch talk will be held on Clubhouse: a very fast-growing app for iPhone, with audio and conversation as its main features, that can be used wherever you are. Very unfortunately, it is not available for Android yet but the builders promised to make it available within months. This event is an experiment for Studium Generale to find out if it works as a new medium for future programmes.
You can download Clubhouse from the Appstore and to participate in the app you need an invitation. Ask around or send an email for an invitation to firstname.lastname@example.org.
