In the video series Jazz & Stories, Jazz trumpet player Michael Varekamp gives 3 mini lectures about the heroes of jazz, such as Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and others. With film and live music, Michael Varekamp tells you all about the history of Jazz.

In these music lectures Michael Varekamp talks each episode about a different time in Jazz history. He’ll tell you how the jazz has changed over the years, with in each time other heroes of jazz, and Michael shows you how the various jazz artists sounded. In some great videos you can see and hear these jazz heroes play.

  • Part 1 focuses on the founders of jazz: Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Beautiful film material will give insight into the origins of jazz.
  • Part 2 features Cab Calloway, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Michael will tell you how jazz has changed over the years.
  • In part 3 Michael takes you along with film fragments and live music to the jazz of Art Blakey, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.

A wonderful series to watch and listen to!
