Summary:

Lower extremity peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is part of cardiovascular disease and is caused by atherosclerotic plaques narrowing the arteries in the legs. Due to an increased life expectancy in the general population the incidence of PAD will increase. Hence there will be both more and older patients. Older patients generally possess more comorbidities, as a result selecting the appropriate treatment is more challenging. The aim of the studies in Part I of this thesis was to investigate the effects of various adverse events in elderly vascular surgery patients. The emphasis in Part II of this thesis is laid on Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in patients with PAD. In this chapter a summary of the main findings is presented.
