With community service learning (CSL), students step outside their university to apply their theoretical knowledge in a hands-on societal engagement. During this webinar, we discuss CSL as a way to strengthen our impact as a university, and as a useful experience for our students. We welcome Tony Valcke, associate professor at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at UGent. As our keynote speaker, he will kick off with an inspiring keynote.
Impact at the Core builds courses and programmes where students work on the wicked issues of our time. Our goal is to challenge students to work on complex problems alongside professionals and peers from all disciplines. Our aim with this event is to set out the definition of community service learning and to inspire our community to think about CSL in their own education. In his keynote, prof. dr. Valcke will elaborate on the concept and implementation of CSL: how to recognize a societal need and how to get started? Moreover, he will provide us with the best practices from UGent. In the second part of this webinar, we will subdivide into break-out groups and hear about examples of CSL at EUR. Please find the preliminary program below.
