Research Evaluation and Assessment Service

The Research Evaluation and Assessment Service (REAS) team of the Library supports researchers in enhancing their research impact, by increasing their visibility and the visibility of their scholarly outputs and by optimizing publication strategies. We support schools and research groups in the use of bibliometric databases for research evaluations.

Activities

  • Awareness: advocating responsible use of metrics-based research assessment and analytics;
  • Providing advice on how and where researchers can locate and apply bibliometric indicators to their own scholarly output (best practices);
  • Providing advice on publication strategies;
  • Providing advice on increasing the visibility of the researcher (author identifiers, like ORCID iD);
  • Increasing the visibility of the Erasmus University Rotterdam in databases like Scopus and Web of Science;
  • Supporting bibliometric analyses for research assessments, funding, and for reappointments, tenure, and promotion;
  • Developing online modules and workshops, including Research impacts: a LibGuide covering the three most used databases for measuring research impact: Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar;
  • Supporting the use of SciVal and InCites, two bibliometric tools for analyzing and visualizing research performance, and Altmetric Explorer, a tool to analyze the online attention for scholarly publications.

We adhere to the Leiden Manifesto for Research Metrics, ten principles to guide research evaluation: 'a distillation of best practice in metrics-based research assessment so that researchers can hold evaluators to account, and evaluators can hold their indicators to account'.
