The best events this summer
Erasmus Magazine provides the best tips for spending your summer in Rotterdam. This time: open air films, roof garden parties, and an original festival.
1. Cinema on the roof
This open-air cinema on the roof of Hofplein station is less well known than Rotterdam Pleinbioscoop on Museumplein, but just as much fun. Roffa Mon Amour presents the best art house films. Like Hiroshima Mon Amour that tells the story of a French woman and a Japanese man who, both happily married, have a one-night romance in Hiroshima, 12 years after the bombing. The film changed the cinematic culture and became a pioneer of the French New Wave.
Wednesday 19 July to Sunday 30 July // Station Hofplein // €7.50
2. Roof Party: Costa del Roffa
Dâk must be the ultimate roof top party. On top of Westblaak multi-storey car park every day from 5pm the barbecue smoulders and you and your friends can enjoy your own food or buy a barbecue pack there. Costa del Roffa is usally free, although there’s a small charge for the festivities and DJs. Check out their Facebook Page: facebook.com/dakrotterdam/ or website dak-rotterdam.nl.
From Wednesday 21 July to Sunday 13 August // Dâk (Westblaak) // Free
3. Crazy Sexy Cool Festival
The Crazy Sexy Cool festival is perfect for the open-minded and alternative partygoers amongst us, who love a festival where anything can happen and anything goes. Expect the unexpected on Saturday 5 August, listening to a diverse range of styles from house and hiphop by, for example, Tod Terry, Ben Fresh, and Jeff Solo. Flamboyant outfits and eccentric acts will make for amazing sights and a memorable evening.
Saturday 5 August // Zuiderpark // €27.50
