EFS Brexit - Seminar

EFS Brexit – Seminar

On Thursday 2 February 2017 EFS is organizing a seminar (in English) on ‘Brexit: Consequences for Trade, VAT and Customs ̓. Academic experts and tax experts from international business and trade will exchange views on the possible consequences.

‘Brexit: Consequences for Trade, VAT and Customs’
The outcome of the Brexit referendum was without doubt the most remarkable event of 2016 from an EU political perspective. Although the UK has not yet started the formal Brexit process, the vote to leave the EU is obviously going to have a huge impact on both the UK and the EU.

From a customs and VAT perspective, the consequences will depend on the outcome of the negotiations on the conditions and relationship model that will apply after Brexit. Will the parties, for example, adopt the Norway model, the Switzerland model or the Turkey model? Or will a new, unique model be agreed? And what are the consequences of these models from a legal, trade and indirect tax perspective? Will the rules on the free movement of goods continue to apply? And what about the rules on competition and state aid?

In this EFS seminar three academic experts will share their views on the various exit models. This will be followed by a panel discussion in which four indirect tax experts from international business and trade will exchange views on the possible consequences in practice.

Date: Thursday 2 February 2017, 13.30 – 18.30 hrs.
