Erasmus University delegation visited three universities in Hong Kong

14-15 October 2019

On the 14th of October, Ms Weichia Tseng (Managing Director, Director China Affairs, International Office) and Ms Selano Li (China representative) from Erasmus University China Centre (EUCC) visited three universities in Hong Kong.

These are:

  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • City University of Hong Kong
  • The University of Hong Kong

Main purpose of this visit:

  • Visiting partner Universities
  • Reviewing current cooperation
  • Discussing further collaborations at school/faculty level
  • Discussing signing of Memorandum of Understanding at university level
  • Organizing EUR alumni networking event

During this visit, current cooperation between Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) and its partner universities was reviewed and future collaboration was discussed. In order to formalize the academic cooperation, the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at university level, hopefully in 2020, also came up during the visit.

The very first collaboration between EUR and its partner in Hong Kong started in 2004 through student exchange between the faculty of Law of The University of Hong Kong and Erasmus School of Law. Over the past 15 years, EUR has in total signed up 18 agreements at faculty level with eight partners in Hong Kong.

Besides visiting these partner universities, EUCC organized an EUR alumni networking event at the office of Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Hong Kong. Both Hong Kong based alumni and partner university counterparts participated. Among the EUR-alumni are professors, businessmen and women, and lawyers. During this event, the Consul General – Ms Annemieke Ruigrok – welcomed those who attended; Ms Jikke Verheij (Head of International Office, EUR) updated everyone with the latest EUR developments.

In addition, the visit to the Independent Schools Foundation was a success; talking with year 12 students in their class and meeting with year 10 to year 12 parents was both interesting and impressive. We had a chance to explain our excellent undergraduate programmes and various options to the parents and students.
