Sharing problems and difficulties and finding out how others experience the same, can be very encouraging and motivating. Therefore the Counselling Service of Erasmus University offers several group trainings to help you in your studies.

Thesis group

This group is for students who are writing their thesis, but lack motivation. The language spoken is primarily Dutch, although English speaking students are also welcome. There is a maximum of 10 participants, supervised by a psychologist, that meet weekly to set goals for the upcoming week. In between you’ll be in touch with a fellow member to discuss your progress. In the next group meeting you’ll talk about whether you’ve achieved your goals, check the work of the others and set new goals.

To join you’re required to have an approved thesis proposal. You can participate for a period no longer than one calendar year and are expected to attend all meetings (every Monday 13:15 – 14:15). The group is not intended to help you with the content of your thesis.

Stress management group

Do you experience high levels of stress during studying, exams or giving a presentation? Do you think the work you’ve done is never good enough? Can you not bring yourself to start studying or do you have trouble concentrating? Then this is the group for you. Students will learn and practice new skills, based on the principles of cognitive behaviour therapy, challenge and change their perfectionistic thinking and maladaptive habits. Anxiety provoking thoughts and difficult emotions that come up will also be dealt with.

There is a maximum of 10 students, and an interview will be held prior to the training to see if participation is useful. The course consists of 8 weekly sessions (Friday 10:00-12:00), starting 6 October.
