Professor dr. Huibert Pols Rector Magnificus until the Institutional Quality Assurance Assessment has been completed
The Supervisory Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam has extended the period of appointment of Rector Magnificus Professor Huibert Pols until, at the latest, the day on which he attains emeritus status in July 2018. The recruitment process for his successor will commence in the near future. Rector Pols will, in any case remain until the Institutional Quality Assurance Assessment (ITK) has been completed (spring of 2018).
The Supervisory Board is extremely grateful for the way in which Professor Huibert Pols has discharged his duties as Rector over the last four years and is delighted that he is prepared to remain in his position as Rector until the ITK has been successfully completed.
Pols’s first term as Rector Magnificus formally ends on 8 November 2017 (the university’s birthday/Dies Natalis). A reappointment for a further four year term is not possible as he will reach retirement age in July 2018.
Quality Assurance Assessment
ITK is the acronym used for the Quality Assurance Assessment of Dutch higher education institutions, which is carried out by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). At the end of 2017, the ITK’s first accreditation term will expire and the second assessment round will start. Currently, under the direction of Professor Pols, Erasmus University is working hard to prepare for this important assessment. To ensure this process goes smoothly, the Supervisory Board believes it is vital to have the ITK conducted and completed under the current rector’s leadership. The assessment is expected to be completed by the spring of 2018.
Successor to Professor Pols
The Supervisory Board will soon start the recruitment procedure to find a successor to Huibert Pols (1952). In consultation with the yet-to-be-appointed new Rector Magnificus and Professor Pols, a date will be chosen for the transfer of responsibilities.
The University Council has advised positively regarding the extension of Rector Pols’ term of appointment.
