Start smoke-free campus Erasmus University
From August 2020, the university campus will therefore be completely smoke-free. From 1 September 2019 to July 2020, smoking will only be permitted in five designated smoking zones on campus.
General Measure of Governance
By making the campus smoke-free, the University is also preparing for the General Measure of Governance concerning smoke-free school sites, which is currently being drawn up by the Ministry of Public Health (VWS). This General Measure of Governance for smoke-free school sites will come into force on 1 August 2020. This means that all school sites (from primary school to Higher Professional Education/University) must be completely smoke-free.
For Erasmus University Rotterdam, this means a smoke-free campus (including all the sites of Erasmus University Rotterdam College and International Institute of Social Studies) for all students, staff, residents, parents, visitors and suppliers, without exception. The smoking ban applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and applies to all tobacco products.
From September 2019, a few smoking zones with smoking facilities will be made available on campus. Smoking will only be permitted in these zones. Apart from the smoking zones, there are no further facilities on campus to extinguish and dispose of cigarette butts.
Universities and Hogeschool
On the grounds of the international business school of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, with a branch on the Woudestein campus, smoking is no longer permitted since the academic year 2018-2019. Tilburg University is starting a completely smoke-free campus in the coming academic year and Utrecht University, like Erasmus University, will make smoking zones available to smokers until the summer of 2020.
