Development of an online master track for Public Administration

The COVID pandemic accelerated the development towards online education and assessment. At EUR we experience that high-quality online education is possible, and that online programs can contribute to inclusive education for both traditional and non-traditional students.

The online education will primarily target students who would otherwise not be able to follow an on-campus EUR program. The initiative will be reaching out to new audiences such as life-long learners and students who cannot come to the campus. Think of (inter)national students who can’t come to campus because of the housing issues in Rotterdam and other Dutch cities, because of a physical/mental inability, or because of financial issues related to travel costs. In addition, online education will increase flexibility for current students because they can take courses (e.g. electives, minors) in an asynchronous manner.

This online master will be a new track as part of the Public Administration master programs, under the same CROHO. A broad-ranged Public Administration master is preferred at this moment; a certain specialization could be added in the years to come. The new track will use existing on-campus courses as a basis for the online master. Since these courses will be redesigned in an online format and the international context of this online master will be used to the full, the curriculum will be well suited for online teaching. The online master will start as per 1 September 2023. The Educational design of this master track has yet to be started and will be supported by the ErasmusU_Online team. The track will be fulltime and aims to make use of the social community platform.

Goal

The goal of this innovation project therefore is to develop an high quality online master track to educate more students. By providing this flexibility we create an inclusive learning environment.

Result

The online master track is still being developed. When the project has been evaluated, the results will be published here.
