Profile
Adwoa Yeboah Gyapong is PhD Researcher in Development Studies. She joined the International Institute of Social Studies, Political Economy of Resources (PER) research Cluster in Spring 2016.
She has an MSc in Development Studies (SOAS, London), and a BSc Honours in Development Planning (KNUST, Ghana). She has worked in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, and Zimbabwe. Adwoa’s research interests are in rural development and social policy planning.
In her PhD research, Adwoa is looking into the labour dynamics of transnational large-scale agricultural land acquisitions (land deals) to draw implications for rural development and policy. She is undertaking an in-depth study of an Oil Palm land deal in Ghana. Specifically, she focuses on the labour conditions for wage farmworkers, their livelihoods, and their differentiated political reactions. In the end, she examines how these processes affect agrarian transitions in relation to (re)production, changes in labour regimes, and food security/sovereignty.
