Johannes is a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication of Erasmus University Rotterdam.

He gives the lectures Introduction to Statistical Analysis as well as tutorials in media theory within the International Bachelor's Programme in Communication and Media (IBCoM). Together with Emy Koopman he teaches the seminar Human Suffering in Arts and Media. At the 2013 IBCoM Awards, Johannes was voted by students as the programme's best lecturer.

Johannes is a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Department of Media and Communication of Erasmus University Rotterdam.

His PhD research at the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication and Culture (ERMeCC) focuses on perceptions and interpretations of mediated humanitarian crises caused by violent conflict or natural disaster (supervised by Prof. Dr. Jeroen Jansz).

Before joining EUR, Johannes worked as a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam (Media and Communication Institute and Department of Political Science) where he taught seminars on public opinion and the role of media in war and conflict. He also lectured within the Erasmus Mundus Master Journalism and Media within Globalisation. Johannes holds a Bachelor in Communication Science and a Research Master in the Social Sciences from the University of Amsterdam (both cum laude). Also, he enjoys writing about himself in the third person.

Besides research and teaching, Johannes also works in the international development sector. As a freelance consultant for different NGOs and for the World Bank, he has been involved in various projects in Tanzania, Senegal, Togo and Gaza.
