Mr. Kwalu Samwel Dede is a goal oriented, and a hardworking professional with a Master of Arts in Population Studies from the University of Ghana at Regional Institute for Population Studies in 2012-2013, and has work experience in data collection and analysis, research and project by project assessment. Mr. Dede has extensive theoretical knowledge (with some practical case by case studies) on gender and reproductive related issues, analysis of demographic variables within the health and educational sectors, impact on migration and urbanization. Also have skills on development planning issues which he undertook at the Institute of Rural Development Planning-Dodoma 2005-2008.

He is currently a PhD researcher at The International Institute for Social Studies (ISS) researching on “The Exclusive Breastfeeding Dilemma in Tanzania. A case Study of Dodoma Region”. The focus of his research is exploring the rural-urban differentials in exclusive breastfeeding and looking on the factors why the existing mismatch between health guidelines and community breastfeeding practices.

Academic Qualifications

PhD in Development Studies: International Institute for Social Studies (ISS)-Erasmus University, Netherlands (ongoing)

MA in Population Studies: University of Ghana (Regional Institute for Population Studies), Legon–Accra, Ghana (July 2012 to July, 2013).

Bachelor’s Degree in Population and Development Planning: Institute of Rural Development Planning, Dodoma – Tanzania (2005 to 2008).

Diploma in Education (Physics and Chemistry): Klerruu Teachers College, Iringa, Tanzania (2003 to 2005).

Research Experience

Mr. Dede has diverse on the field and academic experience in data collection and analysis and general research. He participated in the collection and analysis of data on Dodoma Municipal and Kondoa districts’ profile in 2006 and 2011 respectively. He also participated in developing a comprehensive profile of Dodoma Municipal Council 2013/2014. Mr. Dede also participated in the preparation of “The State of Tanzania’s Population Report 2016” from 19th November to 2nd December 2015 and finalization of the same report from 25th – 29th February 2016 under the Planning Commission of Tanzania. He also conducted a study on Land-based conflicts in four districts including Bahi, Kiteto, Kilosa and Mvomero from April to August 2016.

He has two thesis works at different levels under the following topics:

  • Determinants of Infant Mortality in Tanzania (Using TDHS 2010 Data set)-MA thesis at the University of Ghana 2012/2013
  • Sorghum Production and its Contribution to Poverty Reduction in Kongwa District, Dodoma-Tanzania. Bachelor’s degree thesis at IRDP 2005/2008
