If you are planning to immigrate to the Netherlands you need to take some financial matters into account. Below you can find the different kinds of costs and the payment details.
Different types of costs
There are different types of costs that you will face during the immigration procedure. Below you can find the costs you need to pay in case of your first application, for an extension of your residence permit or for a change of permit (switching institutions and change of purpose).Â
Your immigration process is handled by Team Immigration (EUR) and your admission process by your faculty. This means that we help students with a conditional (e.g. pending graduation) and unconditional offer after we are informed by your faculty. Having an immigration case does not automatically mean that your conditional offer is now unconditional, always refer to the admission team of your faculty for questions regarding admission. Team immigration has no knowledge about your admission process and/or deadlines.
Submitting your immigration documents on time (before the deadline) is part of your enrollment request, failing to submit your documents and pay your invoice on time results in an incomplete enrollment! You will receive an invoice and payment instructions once Team Immigration has been informed by your faculty. The amount you need to transfer to the Erasmus University Rotterdam consists of 3 parts:
- Immigration fee of €228 (Israeli students do not pay the immigration fee);
- Tuition fee, applicable to your situation;
- Living fee (refundable, see bottom of the page) of €1.235 for every month you will be studying in the Netherlands.**Â
Transfer living fee/financial means: This fee should correspond with the duration of your programme. It has a maximum of 12 months - €14.820 - in case you enrol for a programme with a duration of more than one year.Â
You can either add up the different amounts to pay at once or make separate payments. As long as all payments are made before the deadline of your immigration case and make sure to always mention your student number and full name. Please, find our bank account details here.
** Although the IND maintains an income standard of €1.217,96 for students, we have set the standard at €1.235 to make sure that you meet the minimum required amount in case of banking costs or exchange rates. The amount of €1.235 is non-negotiable.
Scholarship:
If you receive a scholarship, this can also be part of or substitute the living fee/financial means. Make sure to upload your official scholarship letter and that it meets the requirements of the IND for scholarship letters. We may ask you to also fill out this scholarship letter. In the case that your scholarship does not cover the full amount, make sure to transfer the remaining part (this will be refunded).
*Please note: Using your scholarship letter does not mean that your scholarship provider will pay us. It simply proves that you will receive sufficient funds and therefore we can accept your scholarship letter as proof of your living fee/financial means.
IMPORTANT: please note that all additional fees that the banks may charge for the international bank transfer must be covered by yourself!

Option 1: Transfer living fee/financial means: This fee should correspond with the duration of your programme. It has a maximum of 12 months - €14.820 - in case you enroll for a programme with a duration of more than one year.

Option 2: Only for students who previously studied at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), you can provide a declaration of income to prove sufficient financial means. This option is only possible if your registration at EUR was continuously without any interruption of your enrollment.
Option 3: If you receive a scholarship, this can also be part of or substitute the living fee/financial means. Make sure to upload your official scholarship letter and that it meets the requirements of the IND for scholarship letters. We may ask you to also fill out this scholarship letter. In the case that your scholarship does not cover the full amount, make sure to transfer the remaining part (this will be refunded).

Payment and refund procedure
If you have taken all the costs mentioned above into account, it is time to start the payment procedure.
We will send all first-year and exchange students an official invoice and payment instructions once Team Immigration has been informed by your faculty. Students applying for an extension, change of purpose or switching institutions, will not receive an invoice. These students can find their costs above in the ‘different types of costs’ section.
Make sure to double-check the payment details before transferring any amount of money! Below you can find the bank transfer details and the refund procedure.

For IHS and ISS students contact your faculty for a refund.
Once you have arrived in the Netherlands and opened a Dutch bank account, you can submit your refund request by completing the online refund form in your student portal (Osiris Student). You can find more information about the refund procedure here.
IMPORTANT:Â ensure that you are financially covered during the first few weeks in the Netherlands, as the refund procedure may take a couple of weeks.
