Stand up straight: cognitive representations of verticality and upright posture
Dr Brandon Rasman is exploring how we use our senses to accurately perceive the orientation of our upright body with respect to the environment. This ability is crucial for daily human function. Using robotic simulators and sensory manipulation techniques, his experiments task human participants to maintain standing balance in novel sensorimotor conditions. This approach is designed to understand the fundamental mechanisms allowing us to form a conscious perceptual representation of our bodies during bipedal activities.
