Looking for a new relationship between WORM and the neighbourhood
Quickly changing and gentrifying neighbourhoods such as Cool-Zuid (Rotterdam) are a serious challenge for the Dutch ambition to be an innovative and inclusive society. Arts, culture and the creative industries are catalysts for innovative processes of sense-making which can lead to social inclusion. Cultural institutions can shape such processes by taking into account current society’s pluriformity, thus being inclusive towards a variety of (groups of) citizens. Institute for avant-gardistic recreation WORM wants to be inclusive towards all citizens in her neighbourhood, Cool-Zuid (Rotterdam). WORM shapes projects which target dialogue and mutual connections between WORM and neighbourhood residents. These projects can be seen as artistic interventions aiming at fostering connections between the creative industries and a variety of citizens in order to strengthen social innovation.
Prof. dr. Evert Bisschop Boele and Dr. Janna Michael from the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication will follow these projects and specifically look at the experiences of neighbourhood residents. The research will give insight in ways in which cultural institutions in the Netherlands may contribute to innovation and inclusivity in Dutch society.
