Completed a BA and MA in History at Erasmus University Rotterdam

"The master Global History and International Relations was a logical continuation after the bachelor History at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. I did this master in addition to the master programmes Finance and Investments and Financial Law. When reflecting on these studies, I believe that Global History and International Relations sets the example of what a master programme should look like. It has certain unique and valuable aspects which you do not find in many other studies nowadays.

Firstly, classes consist of a small amount of students. Therefore, the distance between teacher and students is remarkably small, allowing for interaction and discussions. We always took a view beyond that of the required literature and discussed current relevant issues in these discussions. I think that this is what makes the master such an interesting and high quality programme.

Furthermore the master provides great flexibility regarding the choice of the thesis topic. Not only was there a very broad list of topics, but we were also allowed to come up with our own ideas. As a good way to align my other interests – finance and financial law – with history, I was able to write my thesis on the development of financial regulation in the United States during the time Greenspan was chairman at the Federal Reserve (1987-2006).

In short, Global History and International Relations is a programme I would recommend to everyone who would value personal attention, excellent and very involved teachers and flexibility, offering the student the specific historical knowledge he or she needs."
