NETWORK/INTERNET FACILITIES AT THE STUDENT HOUSES F-BUILDING

INTRODUCTION
The student houses at the F-building are provided with both cabled- and a wireless network. These facilities are part of the university network and offer the user access to the Internet. They also offer access to several computer systems, among which that of the university library at the campus.

THE WIRED NETWORK CONNECTION
The wired network connection in a student house will be dynamically established. This means that the user connects the pc to the wired network. After this he will be automatically connected to the campus network.
The network connection is protected in such a way that only one pc can be connected at the same time. If the student wants to connect another pc, other than the one before, the user must unplug the network cable and wait for approximately 10 minutes before connecting the second pc to the network. The wired network connection in the student houses supports speeds up to 1 Gbit/sec.

THE WIRELESS CONNECTION
For further information concerning the use of wireless network we refer to the information available on the ERNA-website. Click here for this documentation. The use of wireless network is equal to the rest of the entire campus.
The wireless network connection in the student houses supports speeds up to 54 Mbit/sec 802.11 b/g.

COMPUTER NETWORK CONFIGURATION
The student needs to establish the following:
Start --> My Network Places --> View network connections --> Right-click on:  Local Area Connection --> Properties --> Please click on:  Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) --> Please click on the button: Properties --> Click on the button: Obtain an IP address automatically and also Obtain DNS server addresses automatically.
