Extension of your residence permit
Residence permits for the purpose of study are issued for a specific period of time. The expiry date of your permit can be found on the front of your residence permit (‘geldig tot’). Students continuing their studies in the Netherlands after the expiry date of their permit have to extend their permits. Applications for residence permit extensions can only be submitted to IND through the university.
Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) will forward the application for an extension of your permit to the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation (IND) on your behalf, but making the necessary arrangements for the extension of your residence permit well in time is fully your own responsibility. Failing to do so will have severe consequences for your stay in the Netherlands.
Since the procedure for extending your permit will take around two to three months, you are strongly advised to submit your application for an extension two months before your current residence permit expires at the latest, but preferably at an earlier stage.
The university cannot do anything to speed up the process at IND, and cannot be held responsible for any residence gaps that may occur if you fail to submit your application in time.
How to apply for an extension?
You must submit your application for an extension to the university. For applying for an extension of your residence permit, please follow the instructions.
