Legal position

As a student you are subject to different types of regulations on education and examinations, guidelines and of course the law. Many decisions are taken at the university, some of which concern you directly and personally. You may not agree with a decision that concerns you.

During your studies you will also come into contact with a number of different university staff, such as lecturers, staff of the educational offices, security personnel and of course your fellow students. You may find yourself in a situation in which you are not happy with how a university staff member or a fellow student has behaved towards you. You may have a complaint about something else.

Depending on the nature of the dispute or your complaint, there are different options for you to contest this. You can submit an appeal, an objection or a complaint. There are a number of objection and appeal procedures and complaint procedures. You can find more information about these in the chapter about legal protection in the EUR Students' Charter.
