103rd Dies Natalis

On Wednesday, November 8th, 2016, Erasmus University Rotterdam celebrated its 103rd anniversary.

On this occasion, two leading US scientists received an honorary doctorate: John Hauser, professor of Marketing at Kirin M.I.T.'s Sloan School of Management, and Dan Ariely, James B. Duke Professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics.

The theme of the 103rd Dies Natalis was 'Consumer Behaviour in the Digital Economy'. There was a central role for marketing research by Erasmus School of Economics and Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM).

Rector Magnificus Prof. Huibert Pols introduced three Erasmus Initiatives in his Dies lecture. Researchers from the Erasmus University from different disciplines will collaborate on a number of important social issues. Issues on which scientists from Erasmus University can make a significant contribution with their specific knowledge. The three Erasmus Initiatives are Smarter Choices for Better Health, Vital Cities and Citizens and Inclusive Growth.

During the celebration alumna Neelie Kroes, Chair of the Public Policy Advisory Board of Uber, delivered the guest lecture. Saskia Krijger was awarded the Athena Prize for her efforts to promote female talent.
