Specialisation Urban Housing, Equity and Social Justice (UHES)

Master in Urban Management and Development

Housing is a perpetual global challenge. Shifting housing paradigms translated into policies and strategies have provided valuable learning experiences. In reality housing inequality and injustice still persist.

UHES deals with the concept of equity. Students will learn how housing policies and institutional frameworks can fulfil people's needs for housing considering their particular circumstances. Housing affordability, accessibility, availability and adequacy will be explored in order to understand how to create humane settlements that foster social, economic and spatial integration and inclusion. While looking at social justice from a housing perspective students will critically reflect upon current approaches to housing in relation to housing rights, slum upgrading and resettlement.
