Role in Erasmus Studio:
Victor Bekkers (1963) is professor of public administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He holds the chair on the empirical study of public policy and public policy processes. He is also academic director of the Center of Public Innovation, which has been established in the 2004 and which has also been located within the Erasmus University (www.publicinnovation.nl). Furthermore he is research director of the department of public administration and a member of the departments management team. From 2000 till 2002 he was professor of ICT-infrastructures in the private and public sector (special chair); a function which he combined with the position of principal management consultant with an international IT-company (LogicaCMG) within the field of e-government and strategic ICT policy making. From 1998 till 2000 he was engaged as a senior management and policy consultant with BDW-Advies in Utrecht, which had its main clients in local government and not-for-profit sector.
He studied political science and public administration at Nijmegen University where he has got his degree with honours (1987). He obtained his Ph.D. from Tilburg University on a thesis on Governance and ICT (1994).
His main interests are the relationship between governance and ICT, virtual organizations in the public sector, ICT integration in policy networks and policy chains, innovation policies and electronic government. He has published numerous articles and contributions to books, for instance in the International Review of Administrative Sciences, Information Infrastructure and Policy and The Information Polity. He is a member of the editorial board of ‘Bestuurswetenschappen’ and ‘Beleidswetenschap’.
