Introduction
The objectives of this PhD project are the following :

  1. To conduct an empirical study of the recent transformations of large Dutch firms by using the innovative and integrative approach that has recently been developed by Prof. Neil Fligstein (Berkeley)
  2. To systematically compare this approach with the most significant other approaches to the topic (business economics, Chandlerian business history, network studies)
  3. To explore more integrated, interdisciplinary and multi-methods approaches to the topic and to conceptualize their implications and significance
  4. To study the interaction and communication patterns that will emerge as a response by other researchers in the field to the initiatives taken by the leading investigator
