Lei Yang is a PhD candidate in the Department of Media & Communication at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Lei Yang is a PhD candidate in the Department of Media & Communication at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Her supervisor is Prof. Jeroen Jansz. Prior to coming to Europe, Lei studied Journalism at Liaoning University (Shenyang, China) from 2008 to 2015. She obtained her bachelor degree in July 2012 and her research master degree in June 2015.

Her PhD project is "New media and health communication: from an inter-cultural perspective." In 2016, Lei got "Award for Multidiscipline Excellence" in the Dean Master Class "Migrant". In 2017, she presented her research in "The 67th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association". Her photography won 1st prize in "ACCESS Magazine Our View Photo Contest". In 2018, she presented her paper "Chinese Hui Minority People’s Needs in Obtaining Health Information about Cardiovascular Diseases" in Etmaal communicatiewetenchap 2018 (24 hours of communication research 2018) and "The 68th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association". At the same year, her article "Chinese Urban Hui Muslims’ Access to and Evaluation of Cardiovascular Diseases-Related Health Information from Different Sources" got published in International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and she is a reviewer for Telematics and Informatics journal.

Her main research interests include communication between Europe and China, new media and health communication among Chinese Muslims.
