Back to overview

Saskia Schawo works as a researcher and phd candidate at the institute for Medical Technology Assessment since 2008. She holds a master’s degree in economics and has previously worked as a risk controller at an international insurance company. Saskia is particularly interested in the economic evaluation of mental health care interventions. Her present research is focused on the cost-effectiveness of interventions for criminal youths and their families. She employs health economic methodology such as Markov modeling and discrete choice techniques to determine whether these methods can be successfully applied to the field of crime prevention and treatment. Besides her involvement in the evaluation of family therapy for criminal youths she has also been involved in an evaluation of life-style interventions for patients with obesity and high weight, an economic evaluation of medication for children suffering from ADHD and projects evaluating national guidelines for mental illnesses with respect to cost-effectiveness considerations.
