In addition to its university Rotterdam is known for its avant-garde architecture, cultural festival life, and having the largest port of Europe.
With 620.000 inhabitants having over 170 different nationalities Rotterdam is a truly multicultural city. From Brazilian, Polish and Iranian restaurants to African and Asian supermarkets: you will find it in Rotterdam.

Leisure time

Its international character is also reflected in the cultural activities of the city. International art is exhibited in the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum and the Kunsthal. In January you can watch movies from all around the world during the International Film Festival. In summer you can enjoy the Summer Carnival and the North Sea Jazz festival. Also during the rest of the year many activities are organised in Rotterdam. Consult the Festival Calendar for current events. Our webpage about studying in Rotterdam also includes many relevant sources for your activities.

Located in the hart of Europe

If you want to escape the city there are plenty of possibilities. Rotterdam Airport offers low costs flights to over 40 European destinations. An alternative is travelling by train. From Rotterdam high speed trains take you to Amsterdam in 30 minutes, to Brussels in 1,5 hours and to Paris in 2,5 hours.
