On the 27th and 28th of March 2018, Erasmus University Rotterdam will organize a workshop that brings together experts (academics, policymakers, practitioners and NGOs) to provide a comprehensive view on the Dutch legal and policy framework with regard to sustainable trade and development.
The workshop will be designed around a series of lectures identifying legal and policy gaps and/or best practices in the Netherlands when it comes to fostering environmentally and socially sustainable business in global value chains.
In order to determine the status quo and to assess what may be improved in the Dutch regulatory landscape, the rules and policies that are currently in place in the Netherlands will be evaluated. In doing so, account will also be taken of relevant developments in other Western societies and of relevant international legal and policy frameworks like the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The workshop will be organized by Erasmus University Rotterdam, within the framework of its ‘Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity’ Initiative. Through this Initiative, Erasmus University seeks to provide new, much-needed scholarly insights into the ways in which we can maximize the positive impacts and inclusiveness of our growing prosperity, while minimizing its negative impacts on workers and communities in developing societies and on our planet. By focusing on and promoting scholarly research on these issues, Erasmus University takes its responsibility as a public knowledge institution to contribute to a world that is more inclusiveOpent extern. The event will be co-sponsored by the BACT (Behavioural Approaches to Contract and Tort) research programme.
