Xianghan is a PhD researcher from Renmin University, where she conducts research in the Jurisprudence Department. Under the supervision of Martin Buijsen she participates in the research programme Rethinking the Rule of Law in an Era of Globalisation, Privatisation and Multiculturalisation of Erasmus School of Law.
Her research is about the legal protection of the human subject in human experiments. The company or hospital that wants to test a new drug must give their plans to an ethical review committee. The ethical review committee then checks the plans and rejects or permits the testing of the drug. China has now new administration regulations on this subject, which has more effective measures to protect the human subject.
The Netherlands has the Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects Act. China doesn’t have this kind of act yet and therefore it is very useful for Xianghan to conduct her research Rotterdam, since The Netherlands has more research on this field and China can learn from it. Because of the short period of time, Xianghan focuses on a specific area within this subject. Her main focus is on the right of informed consent. According to Xianghan, this is well organized in The Netherlands.
In September Xianghan goes to Aix-en-Provence for ten months, where she will start a Master in European Business Law at the Aix-Marseille University. When she goes back to China in June, she will use all her time to learn French as
quickly as possible. Furthermore Xianghan thinks The Netherlands is a beautiful
country and if she could she had definitely extended her stay.
